H. ‘Choctaw Ridge’  .............................................s/f ... $65.00 ... d/f ... $100.00
28" M SEv 4½" Four-way branching 21 buds.
In 1967 country singer Bobbie Gentry released a single entitled "Ode to Billy Joe." The
song's breezy bluegrass tune and memorable chorus made it an instant hit as was
H.
‘Choctaw Ridge’ when I saw it bloom in the seedling field. The impeccable form is very
round and full. The color of a pastel jonquil yellow  shows off the deep sculpting and
heavily ruffled petals. The ruffling continues deep into the throat where a green heart
awaits. I have not used this flower in hybridizing yet, so I don’t know it’s fertility, but would
assume it is fertile. From my introduction of H. ‘Judith Aucoin’ released this year.  Petals
are 2 ¾", sepals 2 ¼". Seedling No. 0650 (Judith Aucoin X Bas Relief).

H. ‘Chattaboogie’ ...............................................s/f ... $100.00 ... d/f ... $150.00
29" ML SEv Re 5¼" Four-way branching 28 buds.
This has been one of my favorite garden flowers ever since first bloom. The flower is a
polychrome of pale yellow with a pink  tinge over a cream base.  Complicated petal edges
repeat the crimson of the eye ending with a greenish throat. The scapes are well
branched and carry lots of buds.
H. ‘Chattaboogie’ is pod and pollen fertile. I will be using it
quite heavily in the greenhouse this winter. Even though it is ML, it occasionally repeats.
This is probably as close to an unusual form that you will ever see me introduce. Both pod
and pollen fertile, with very good substance that holds well in rain or sunshine. Petals are
2", sepals 1". Seedling No. 0790 (Edge Of Heaven X Lee Pickles).

28" ML SEv LFr Re 6", Four-way branching, 25 buds.
This is named for a friend, Judith Aucoin of Birmingham, AL. Her husband, Paul, was one
of the first of many to see this flower blooming in the garden and was immediately taken
with its beauty. The 6” blossom of pastel golden yellow has heavy, heavy ruffles that
extend way down into the throat and is deeply sculpted.
H. ‘Judith Aucoin’ has been a
major parent in my sculpting program, producing some outstanding kids, and is pod and
pollen fertile. The throat is a dark forest green. My friend, Bob Carr, thought this was one
of the finest sculpted daylilies he had ever seen. The substance is heavy and holds well in
the sun and rain. It is a modest increaser. Petals are 3¼", sepals 2¼". Seedling 0042
(Sunshine Riches X Doc Branch).

27" M SEv Re 6" Four-way branching, 25 buds.
Back in 1981, I was in administration at The Emory University School of Medicine in
Atlanta. Not too far from where I lived there was a pizza parlor by the name of The Mellow
Mushroom where I spent many evenings eating pizza. This cultivar reminded me of those
times past. It is an ivory polychrome showing tinges of lemon and pink on a corduroy
texture. The ruffled petal edges are of darkened lemon. The color of the flower
emphasizes the lime green throat. The substance is exceptionally heavy and holds well in
the rain and sun. Plant habit is excellent and it increases fairly rapidly. One of the show
flowers in the garden. Petals are 3½", sepals 2". Seedling No. 0630 (Doc Branch X
Wonder Of It All)
H. ‘Robert W. Carr’ ....................................................................... s/f ... $150.00
32" EM D Re VFr 5¾" Four-way branching, 27 buds.
In September 2007, Bob called me from the hospital and asked if I would send him some
seedling pictures to look at. I did, and he returned two and asked, “If either of these make
the cut, would you name it for me?” Ironically, it has the same parents as Bob’s
H.
‘Wonder Of It All’. This polychrome of ivory pink  has a throat of yellow that matches the
heavily ruffled and fluted edge. The substance is very heavy and it holds well in rain or
sun. The plants are husky with arching  foliage. The blossom is lightly sculpted and is very
fragrant. The petals are 3", sepals 2" and is very pod and pollen fertile and producing
some exciting seedlings. Seedling. 0616 (Mandalay Bay Music X Wonders Never Cease).
H. 'Razorwire'
H. ‘Razorwire’ ............................................................................... s/f ... $150.00
27" ML D Re 5" Three-way branching, 19 buds.
What can I say? Another in a long line of toothed/fringed daylilies from our hybridizing
program. Each year produces one better than the previous year. The blossom is a blush
pink with distinctive “razorwire” saw-toothed edges of bright lemon yellow. The teeth
reach deep into the throat of yellow that matches the petal edges. The heart of the throat
is a lime green. The plant habit is very good and the flowers are well above the foliage and
it is a moderate increaser. Both pod and pollen fertile,
H. ‘Razorwire’ is proving to be a
parent  for some exciting toothed edges and we have been using it on different colors.
Excellent substance that holds well. Petals are 3", sepals 2". Seedling 0562 (Forestlake
Ragamuffin X Candied Popcorn Perfection)
